Christmas and New Year abroad: can one eSIM cover several countries?

· Telroo

Short answer: one regional eSIM can cover several countries if every destination on your itinerary appears on that plan's coverage list. The allowance and validity are shared across the trip; crossing a border does not start a fresh plan. Check stopovers as well as the main holiday destination.

For a Christmas or New Year trip through Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, compare the Singapore, Malaysia & Thailand eSIM. It covers those three countries, so you can keep using the same eSIM as you travel between them. It does not cover every country in Asia.

Match a regional plan to your summer itinerary

Example holiday route Plan to compare Coverage to check
Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand Singapore, Malaysia & Thailand eSIM All three countries are listed. Bali is not included.
Japan and South Korea Japan & South Korea eSIM Japan and South Korea are listed. Check any other stopover separately.
UK, France and Italy over Christmas Europe 40+ Areas eSIM These destinations are listed; open the complete list for the rest of your route.
USA and Canada for New Year USA & Canada eSIM Canada and the United States are listed. Mexico is not included.

Use these itinerary examples to compare coverage. The coverage descriptions were checked on the linked product pages on 31 October 2026. Confirm the current list before purchasing, including islands, territories and every stop where you need data.

A stopover can start your plan before the main holiday

Telroo plans start when you first use the eSIM in a covered destination, not when you install it at home. That distinction matters if your regional plan covers your stopover.

For example, if you start using a Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand plan during a Singapore stopover before continuing to Thailand, its validity is already running. It does not start again when you reach Thailand. Choose enough validity for the time from first use to the end of your trip.

The same applies if Christmas and New Year fall within one holiday: midnight on New Year's Eve does not reset a fixed-data allowance or extend the plan. Check the selected plan's duration and expiry rather than the calendar year.

One regional plan or separate country plans?

A regional plan can suit you when you need mobile data in several covered countries and prefer one eSIM and one allowance for the trip. It can also simplify a short break with a stopover, provided the available validity fits your dates.

Separate country plans can suit you when most of the holiday is in one place, another destination is not covered, or different travellers need different plan types. For a Bali-only trip, compare the Bali & Indonesia eSIM. For Japan without South Korea, compare the Japan eSIM with the regional option.

Do not assume a regional plan is always cheaper or has the same networks as a country plan. Compare current prices, coverage and any network details available for the actual plans. Our Europe guide and Southeast Asia guide provide more context.

Does the data reset in the next country?

No. On the fixed-data regional plans linked here, one allowance is shared across the covered countries. Using some in Singapore leaves less for Malaysia and Thailand. A daily plan, where offered, follows its own daily allowance rules rather than resetting at each border.

Hotspot use also comes out of the same allowance. The linked regional products list sharing as allowed, but a family sharing one phone needs enough data for every connected device. Use the data planner to estimate usage.

What should you do before the flight and at the border?

Check phone compatibility, then install on Wi-Fi before departure. If using separate eSIMs, label each by destination and select the right one for mobile data when needed. Each Telroo eSIM can only be installed once, so leave installed profiles in place rather than deleting them to switch countries.

A regional eSIM should connect to an available supported network in the next covered country. If it does not, check the travel line and its roaming instructions, toggle Aeroplane Mode or restart, and follow the troubleshooting guide. Coverage still depends on your location and available networks.

Choose the plan for your whole route

Compare Singapore, Malaysia & Thailand plans, Japan & South Korea plans, Europe plans or USA & Canada plans. Check every destination and the time from first use before selecting a plan.
