Short answer
Best fit by data per day for most Australians visiting France for 1–2 weeks: the 20GB, 30-day plan, $17.90 AUD — about 1.4GB a day over 14 days, sized for everyday maps, messaging, bookings and photo uploads. It is data-only: no local phone number, standard calls or SMS. For lighter use (mostly maps and messaging), the 5GB, 30-day plan is $5.90 AUD, about 0.36GB a day over 14 days. If you want a set amount every day, daily plans start at $4.90 AUD for 1GB a day for 3 days.
| Plan | Price | Data per day | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1GB · 7 days | $1.90 AUD | About 0.14GB over 7 days | Short trips, or messaging and maps only |
| 3GB · 15 days | $3.90 AUD | About 0.21GB over 14 days | Short trips, or messaging and maps only |
| 5GB · 30 days | $5.90 AUD | About 0.36GB over 14 days | Light use: maps, messaging and bookings |
| 20GB · 30 days | $17.90 AUD | About 1.4GB over 14 days | Everyday use, including photo uploads and social media |
| 50GB · 30 days | $36.90 AUD | About 3.6GB over 14 days | Heavy use: video calls, streaming or sharing a hotspot |
| 1GB/day · 3 days | $4.90 AUD | 1GB high-speed | A set high-speed allowance every day; speed is reduced after it is used |
| 1GB/day · 7 days | $9.90 AUD | 1GB high-speed | A set high-speed allowance every day; speed is reduced after it is used |
| 1GB/day · 15 days | $21.90 AUD | 1GB high-speed | A set high-speed allowance every day; speed is reduced after it is used |
| 1GB/day · 30 days | $42.90 AUD | 1GB high-speed | A set high-speed allowance every day; speed is reduced after it is used |
Data per day is the plan’s data divided by the trip length (up to 14 days): a planning average, not a daily allowance or a guarantee it will cover your use.
Will my phone work in France?
Your phone can use a travel eSIM in France if it supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked. Check for an “Add eSIM” option or an EID in your phone settings. Your Australian SIM can stay in the phone: with dual SIM it may remain available for calls and texts (your own carrier’s roaming charges apply), while the travel eSIM is used for mobile data. Check your phone.

Choosing a plan for France
Fixed-data plans (France eSIM) give one data allowance to use over the validity period; it does not reset each day. They suit travellers who mostly use maps, messaging and bookings.
Daily plans (France Unlimited eSIM) give a high-speed allowance each day for the number of days you choose. After the daily allowance is used, speed is reduced until the next day. They suit heavier daily use, such as video calls or sharing a hotspot.
Coverage in France
On 16 October 2026 the France plans listed one network: Orange (5G). Signal can drop in the Métro, in old stone buildings and in rural valleys, so download offline maps for road trips and keep train tickets saved on the phone.
France plan or a Europe plan?
A France plan covers France only. Monaco was not named on the France plans or on the Europe 40+ Areas eSIM on 16 October 2026, so a day trip to Monaco needs the separate Monaco eSIM. If your trip continues to Italy, Switzerland, Spain or the UK, the Europe 40+ Areas plan listed all of them, and in France it listed four networks: SFR, Bouygues, Free Mobile and Orange. See the Europe eSIM guide for multi-country trips.
How much data do you need?
Start from your phone's recent mobile-data use at home, then add headroom for navigation and uploading photos. As a planning example, 20GB over 14 days is about 1.4GB a day; over 7 days it is about 2.9GB a day. Video streaming, video calls, cloud backups and hotspot use add up quickly, so save them for Wi-Fi or choose a larger or daily plan. The travel data planner has daily budgets for 7, 14 and 30 days.
Using your Australian number
These plans are data-only: they do not include a local phone number, standard calls or SMS. A dual-SIM phone can keep your Australian SIM installed for calls and texts while the travel eSIM carries mobile data. Turn off data roaming on the Australian line if you want to avoid your carrier's roaming charges, and check your carrier's terms for incoming calls and texts.
Messaging and calling apps such as WhatsApp, iMessage and FaceTime work over the travel eSIM's data. More on how this works: what an eSIM is and keeping your Australian number overseas.
France eSIM setup
- Confirm your exact phone model supports eSIM and the phone is carrier-unlocked (compatibility guide).
- Install the eSIM from the QR code in your delivery email while on reliable Wi-Fi, ideally before you fly.
- Label the new line “France” so it is easy to pick in your settings.
- On arrival, set the travel eSIM as your mobile-data line, turn on data roaming for that line, and follow the plan's activation instructions.
Step-by-step guides: iPhone, Samsung, Google Pixel and the general installation guide. If it does not connect, see troubleshooting before deleting anything. France eSIM questions
Can I use my phone as a hotspot in France?
The France plans listed hotspot support on 16 October 2026. Hotspot traffic uses the same data allowance; see sharing data with a hotspot.
Why does a website think I am in another country?
On 16 October 2026 the France plans listed “Europe” as the data exit country, so some websites may place you in a different European country. Read what a data exit country means.
Does a France eSIM include a French phone number?
No. The plans are data-only, with no local number, standard calls or SMS.
