Coverage in Vietnam
On 17 October 2026 both Vietnam plans listed two networks: Viettel Mobile (5G) and Vinaphone (5G). Coverage and speed still depend on the local network, your device and location. Major cities and common tourist routes can perform differently from rural, mountainous or island areas, so download offline maps and save bookings before long road or boat trips. Check the selected product for its network and activation conditions.
Will my phone work in Vietnam?
Your phone can use a travel eSIM in Vietnam if it supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked. Check for an “Add eSIM” option or an EID in your phone settings. Your Australian SIM can stay in the phone: with dual SIM it may remain available for calls and texts (your own carrier’s roaming charges apply), while the travel eSIM is used for mobile data. Check phone compatibility.

Vietnam eSIM questions
When does the validity period start?
Your plan's validity starts when you first use it in a covered destination, not when you install it. Install on Wi-Fi before you fly.
Is unlimited data always full speed?
Not necessarily. Unlimited-style plans may include a daily high-speed allowance followed by reduced speeds. The product page states the conditions for the selected option.
Can I use my phone as a hotspot in Vietnam?
Both Vietnam plans listed hotspot support on 17 October 2026. Hotspot traffic uses the same data allowance; see sharing data with a hotspot.
Why does a website think I am in Hong Kong?
On 17 October 2026 the Vietnam plans listed Hong Kong as the data exit country, so some websites may estimate your location as Hong Kong. Read what a data exit country means.
Can I top up my eSIM?
Top up eligible plans from your order page, subject to eligibility. For eligible Daily plans, top-ups extend the number of days; they do not increase the daily high-speed allowance or remove today’s speed reduction. Keep your existing eSIM installed.
Short answer: sizing a plan for 1–2 weeks
Best fit by data per day for most Australians visiting Vietnam for 1–2 weeks: the 20GB, 30-day plan, $28.90 AUD — about 1.4GB a day over 14 days, sized for everyday maps, messaging, bookings and photo uploads. It is data-only: no local phone number, standard calls or SMS. For lighter use (mostly maps and messaging), the 5GB, 30-day plan is $8.90 AUD, about 0.36GB a day over 14 days. If you want a set amount every day, daily plans start at $18.90 AUD for 1GB a day for 7 days.
| Plan | Price | Data per day | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1GB · 7 days | $2.90 AUD | About 0.14GB over 7 days | Short trips, or messaging and maps only |
| 3GB · 15 days | $5.90 AUD | About 0.21GB over 14 days | Short trips, or messaging and maps only |
| 5GB · 30 days | $8.90 AUD | About 0.36GB over 14 days | Light use: maps, messaging and bookings |
| 20GB · 30 days | $28.90 AUD | About 1.4GB over 14 days | Everyday use, including photo uploads and social media |
| 50GB · 180 days | $98.90 AUD | About 3.6GB over 14 days | Heavy use: video calls, streaming or sharing a hotspot |
| 1GB/day · 7 days | $18.90 AUD | 1GB high-speed | A set high-speed allowance every day; speed is reduced after it is used |
| 1GB/day · 15 days | $39.90 AUD | 1GB high-speed | A set high-speed allowance every day; speed is reduced after it is used |
| 1GB/day · 30 days | $79.90 AUD | 1GB high-speed | A set high-speed allowance every day; speed is reduced after it is used |
Data per day is the plan’s data divided by the trip length (up to 14 days): a planning average, not a daily allowance or a guarantee it will cover your use.
Fixed data or daily unlimited?
A Vietnam travel eSIM lets a compatible, unlocked phone connect to prepaid mobile data without swapping the physical SIM. This page shows the currently available fixed-data and daily unlimited-style options so you can choose by trip length and usage.
A fixed-data plan is usually easier to compare for maps, messaging and occasional browsing. A daily unlimited-style plan can suit heavier use, but high-speed data may be subject to a daily allowance or fair-use speed reduction. Read the product details before choosing.
On 17 October 2026 the Vietnam eSIM (fixed data) listed no speed reduction. The Vietnam Unlimited eSIM offered 1GB, 3GB, 5GB or 10GB of high-speed data a day for 1, 7 or 30 days; usage resets every 24 hours, speed is reduced after the daily allowance. Choose enough days before you buy.
How much data do you need?
Navigation, translation, messaging and travel bookings are relatively light uses. Video, social uploads, video calls and hotspot use consume data faster. Match the plan to your travel days and expected daily use. As a planning example, 20GB over 14 days is about 1.4GB a day; the travel data planner has daily budgets for 7, 14 and 30 days.
Using your Australian number
The Vietnam plans are data-only: no Vietnamese phone number, standard calls or SMS. A compatible dual-SIM phone can usually retain the Australian SIM for calls and messages while the Vietnam eSIM handles data. Disable data roaming on the Australian line if you want to avoid carrier roaming charges. More on this: what an eSIM is and keeping your Australian number overseas.

Vietnam as part of a longer trip
