Short answer

Best fit by data per day for most Australians visiting Fiji for 1–2 weeks: the 20GB, 30-day plan, $61.90 AUD — about 1.4GB a day over 14 days, sized for everyday maps, messaging, bookings and photo uploads. It is data-only: no local phone number, standard calls or SMS. For lighter use (mostly maps and messaging), the 5GB, 30-day plan is $16.90 AUD, about 0.36GB a day over 14 days. If you want a set amount every day, daily plans start at $11.90 AUD for 1GB a day for 3 days.

Will my phone work in Fiji?

Your phone can use a travel eSIM in Fiji if it supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked. Check for an “Add eSIM” option or an EID in your phone settings. Your Australian SIM can stay in the phone: with dual SIM it may remain available for calls and texts (your own carrier’s roaming charges apply), while the travel eSIM is used for mobile data. Check your phone.

A Fiji eSIM gives a compatible, unlocked phone prepaid mobile data for a resort holiday, a wedding or island hopping, without swapping out your Australian SIM.

Choosing a plan for Fiji

Fixed-data plans (Fiji eSIM) give one data allowance to use over the validity period; it does not reset each day. They suit travellers who mostly use maps, messaging and bookings.

Daily plans (Fiji Unlimited eSIM) give a high-speed allowance each day for the number of days you choose. After the daily allowance is used, speed is reduced until the next day. They suit heavier daily use, such as video calls or sharing a hotspot.

Coverage in Fiji

On 16 October 2026 the Fiji plans listed one network: Vodafone (4G). Coverage depends on the island and where you are on it. On boats, small outer islands and remote beaches the signal can be weak or missing, so check your resort's Wi-Fi and download what you need before day trips. Arriving on a cruise? See using a travel eSIM on a cruise.

Planning data for an island holiday

Many resort stays mix hotel Wi-Fi with mobile data for transfers, tours and messages home. If you mostly stay at one resort with Wi-Fi, a smaller fixed plan may be enough; if you move between islands or share photos and video calls every day, compare a daily plan.

How much data do you need?

Start from your phone's recent mobile-data use at home, then add headroom for navigation and uploading photos. As a planning example, 20GB over 14 days is about 1.4GB a day; over 7 days it is about 2.9GB a day. Video streaming, video calls, cloud backups and hotspot use add up quickly, so save them for Wi-Fi or choose a larger or daily plan. The travel data planner has daily budgets for 7, 14 and 30 days.

Using your Australian number

These plans are data-only: they do not include a local phone number, standard calls or SMS. A dual-SIM phone can keep your Australian SIM installed for calls and texts while the travel eSIM carries mobile data. Turn off data roaming on the Australian line if you want to avoid your carrier's roaming charges, and check your carrier's terms for incoming calls and texts.

Messaging and calling apps such as WhatsApp, iMessage and FaceTime work over the travel eSIM's data. More on how this works: what an eSIM is and keeping your Australian number overseas.

Fiji eSIM setup

  1. Confirm your exact phone model supports eSIM and the phone is carrier-unlocked (compatibility guide).
  2. Install the eSIM from the QR code in your delivery email while on reliable Wi-Fi, ideally before you fly.
  3. Label the new line “Fiji” so it is easy to pick in your settings.
  4. On arrival, set the travel eSIM as your mobile-data line, turn on data roaming for that line, and follow the plan's activation instructions.

Fiji eSIM questions

Will a Fiji eSIM work on every island?

It works where the listed network has coverage. Coverage varies between islands and can be limited on smaller outer islands and at sea.

Can I use my phone as a hotspot in Fiji?

The Fiji plans listed hotspot support on 16 October 2026. Hotspot traffic uses the same data allowance; see sharing data with a hotspot.

Does a Fiji eSIM include calls or SMS?

No. The plans are data-only. Use internet calling and messaging apps, or keep your Australian SIM on for calls and texts.
