After your trip: turn off or delete your travel eSIM
Switch data back to your Australian line, turn the travel line off and delete the eSIM only when you are sure you no longer need it.
When you get home, your phone still has the travel eSIM installed. You do not have to do anything with it straight away, but a few minutes of tidying up avoids surprises: data going to the wrong line, a confusing list of SIMs, or deleting a plan you still need for the flight home.
Short answer
Once you have landed in Australia, switch mobile data back to your Australian line and turn the travel line off. Delete the travel eSIM only when its plan has finished and you are sure you no longer need it, because a deleted eSIM cannot simply be reinstalled.
Step 1: switch mobile data back to your Australian line
- iPhone: in Settings › Mobile (Cellular on some models), tap Mobile Data and choose your Australian line. Apple's Dual SIM guide calls this choosing the default line for mobile data.
- Samsung Galaxy: in Settings › Connections › SIM manager (SIM card manager), set mobile data to your Australian SIM.
- Google Pixel: in Settings › Network & internet › SIMs, tap Mobile data and choose your Australian SIM.
If you turned off data roaming on your Australian line before the trip, nothing else needs to change for it at home.
Step 2: turn the travel line off (keep it installed)
Turning a line off keeps the eSIM on the phone but stops it being used:
- iPhone: in Settings › Mobile, tap the travel line and turn off Turn On This Line.
- Samsung Galaxy: in Settings › Connections › SIM manager, select the eSIM plan and switch its toggle off. Samsung says the switch is then greyed out.
- Google Pixel: in your SIM settings, choose the eSIM and turn off Use this SIM. Google says this turns the SIM off temporarily.
Step 3: delete it, only when you are sure
Apple says to erase an eSIM if you are going to sell, trade in or give away the device, and not to erase one as a troubleshooting step unless your provider tells you to. Apple also says that once you erase an eSIM you need to contact the provider for a new one. Telroo's terms say activation details and QR codes may be unique, so reinstallation may not be possible.
Good times to delete a travel eSIM:
- the plan's validity has ended or its data is used up, and you are not still travelling;
- you are selling, trading in or giving away the phone;
- Telroo support has asked you to.
How to delete it:
- iPhone: Settings › Mobile, tap the travel plan, then Delete Plan (or Delete eSIM if it is the only plan).
- Samsung Galaxy: Settings › Connections › SIM manager, select the eSIM plan, then tap Remove.
- Google Pixel: in your SIM settings, choose the eSIM, then tap Erase eSIM.
Deleting a travel eSIM does not affect your Australian SIM or number.
Travelling again soon?
You can leave an old travel eSIM switched off, but for a new trip buy a plan for that destination: every Telroo order is delivered with its own QR code by email. Label the new line clearly (for example “Japan 2027”) so you can tell it from the old one, and delete the old one once you no longer need it. Before you buy, check the destination's plan details: the coverage, validity and data on the product page are what that order includes.
After-trip questions
Does keeping an old travel eSIM cost anything?
Telroo plans are paid for once at checkout and are not subscriptions, so an old travel eSIM left on the phone does not create new charges from Telroo.
Will deleting the eSIM give me a refund for unused data?
No. Deleting the eSIM only removes it from the phone. Refunds are covered by the refund guide, which explains that change-of-mind refunds can be limited once an eSIM has been allocated, subject to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
I deleted the travel eSIM by mistake during my trip. What now?
Contact support with your order number and phone model. Do not try to scan the same QR code again until support replies, because it may only install once.
Can I move a travel eSIM to my new phone?
Telroo's refund guide notes that a profile may be single-use and may not transfer between phones. If you are changing phones before a trip, install the eSIM on the phone you will travel with.
