Short answer
Best fit by data per day for most Australians visiting the Philippines for 1–2 weeks: the 20GB, 30-day plan, $28.90 AUD — about 1.4GB a day over 14 days, sized for everyday maps, messaging, bookings and photo uploads. It is data-only: no local phone number, standard calls or SMS. For lighter use (mostly maps and messaging), the 5GB, 30-day plan is $8.90 AUD, about 0.36GB a day over 14 days. If you want a set amount every day, daily plans start at $4.90 AUD for 1GB a day for 3 days.

Data per day is the plan’s data divided by the trip length (up to 14 days): a planning average, not a daily allowance or a guarantee it will cover your use.
Will my phone work in the Philippines?
Your phone can use a travel eSIM in the Philippines if it supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked. Check for an “Add eSIM” option or an EID in your phone settings. Your Australian SIM can stay in the phone: with dual SIM it may remain available for calls and texts (your own carrier’s roaming charges apply), while the travel eSIM is used for mobile data. Check your phone.

A Philippines eSIM gives a compatible, unlocked phone prepaid mobile data for Manila, Cebu, Palawan and island hopping, without swapping out your Australian SIM.
Choosing a plan for Philippines
Fixed-data plans (Philippines eSIM) give one data allowance to use over the validity period; it does not reset each day. They suit travellers who mostly use maps, messaging and bookings.
Daily plans (Philippines Unlimited eSIM) give a high-speed allowance each day for the number of days you choose. After the daily allowance is used, speed is reduced until the next day. They suit heavier daily use, such as video calls or sharing a hotspot.
Coverage in the Philippines
On 16 October 2026 the Philippines plans listed two networks: Smart (5G) and Globe (5G). Across thousands of islands, signal varies: cities and main towns can differ a lot from ferries, small islands and mountain areas, so download offline maps and booking details before you travel between islands.
Travelling on to other Southeast Asian countries?
A Philippines plan covers the Philippines only. On 16 October 2026 the Asia (7 areas) eSIM listed the Philippines with Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. See the Southeast Asia eSIM guide and check every country on your route against the plan's coverage list.
How much data do you need?
Start from your phone's recent mobile-data use at home, then add headroom for navigation and uploading photos. As a planning example, 20GB over 14 days is about 1.4GB a day; over 7 days it is about 2.9GB a day. Video streaming, video calls, cloud backups and hotspot use add up quickly, so save them for Wi-Fi or choose a larger or daily plan. The travel data planner has daily budgets for 7, 14 and 30 days.
Using your Australian number
These plans are data-only: they do not include a local phone number, standard calls or SMS. A dual-SIM phone can keep your Australian SIM installed for calls and texts while the travel eSIM carries mobile data. Turn off data roaming on the Australian line if you want to avoid your carrier's roaming charges, and check your carrier's terms for incoming calls and texts.
Messaging and calling apps such as WhatsApp, iMessage and FaceTime work over the travel eSIM's data. More on how this works: what an eSIM is and keeping your Australian number overseas.
Philippines eSIM setup
- Confirm your exact phone model supports eSIM and the phone is carrier-unlocked (compatibility guide).
- Install the eSIM from the QR code in your delivery email while on reliable Wi-Fi, ideally before you fly.
- Label the new line “Philippines” so it is easy to pick in your settings.
- On arrival, set the travel eSIM as your mobile-data line, turn on data roaming for that line, and follow the plan's activation instructions.
Step-by-step guides: iPhone, Samsung, Google Pixel and the general installation guide. If it does not connect, see troubleshooting before deleting anything. Payment, delivery and your order page are explained in how Telroo works; for the trip itself, see keeping your phone safe overseas and, once you are home, what to do with the eSIM after your trip.
Arrival QR code: eTravel
Smartraveller Philippines travel advice (updated 24 September 2026, checked 17 October 2026) says you must register your travel on the eTravel online portal to receive a QR code, which you need for arrival and departure, and that you must register your departure within 72 hours (but not less than 3 hours) before you leave. Complete it before you fly and keep a screenshot of the QR code, so you can show it at the airport even before your travel eSIM connects.
Philippines eSIM questions
Can I use my phone as a hotspot in the Philippines?
The Philippines plans listed hotspot support on 16 October 2026. Hotspot traffic uses the same data allowance; see sharing data with a hotspot.
Does a Philippines eSIM include a local number?
No. The plans are data-only, with no local number, standard calls or SMS. Apps or services that need a Philippine mobile number will not work with it.
Will it work on the islands I am visiting?
It works where Smart or Globe has coverage. Coverage varies between islands, so plan for gaps at sea and in remote areas.
