How it works
How buying a Telroo travel eSIM works
From choosing a plan to getting help on your trip: AUD prices including GST, secure Stripe payment and one QR code per eSIM by email.
This page sets out, step by step, what happens when you buy a travel eSIM from Telroo, from choosing a plan to getting help during your trip. It describes how the store works today; the product page and checkout show the details for your order.
1. Choose a destination and a plan
Start from all destinations or a destination guide. Each product page lists every plan's data allowance, validity and price, and its Plan details: the networks used, hotspot support, whether speed is reduced after a daily allowance, and the country the data routes via. There are two kinds of plan:
- Fixed data: one allowance to use across the validity period (fixed-data plans).
- Daily: a high-speed allowance each day for the number of days you choose, with reduced speed after it is used until the next day (daily plans).
All Telroo plans are data-only: no local phone number, standard calls or SMS. Your Australian SIM can stay in the phone for those. Before you buy, check that your phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked.
2. Prices in Australian dollars, including GST
Prices on the site are in Australian dollars and include GST. The cart and checkout show the total before you pay. If you have a Telroo discount code, enter it at checkout; it is applied on the next step, before payment.
3. Pay securely through Stripe
Payment is a one-off card payment handled by Stripe on its secure payment page; Telroo never sees your full card details. It is not a subscription and does not renew. If you pay from overseas, Stripe's page can show the total in your own currency at Stripe's exchange rate, while the order itself stays in AUD. You do not need an account or a password to buy.
4. Your eSIM arrives by email
After payment, the eSIM is issued and emailed to the address you used at checkout. Each eSIM in an order gets its own QR code, one per phone. The email also explains how to install it on reliable Wi-Fi. If it has not arrived, check your junk folder first, then contact us.
5. Your order page
After checkout you are taken to your order page. It shows the order status, and once the eSIM is ready it shows the QR code, a quick-install link and the manual activation code, plus a link to your receipt. To see your orders later, sign in with the email you used at checkout: we email you a 6-digit code and a sign-in link, with no password needed.
Check your data left
Each eSIM on your order page has a status panel. Tap Check status to see the eSIM's status, how much data is left and when it expires; after the first check the button reads Refresh status. You can open the order page in two ways:
- Order link: the order page you were taken to after payment.
- Your account: go to your account, sign in with your checkout email and the 6-digit code we email you, open the order and tap Check status.
The figures are as last reported by the network, which updates data use every 2–3 hours, so the number left can be higher than it really is right after heavy use. The panel shows when it was last checked.
6. Install before you fly, switch on when you land
Install the eSIM on Wi-Fi before you leave. It only connects once you arrive in a country your plan covers, so it will not show signal or data at home. When you land, turn on data roaming for the eSIM, choose it as your mobile-data line and follow the plan's activation instructions. Guides: installation overview, iPhone, Samsung and Google Pixel. Keep the QR code private, and do not delete an installed eSIM without asking us first: a profile may only install once.
7. If something goes wrong
- Not connecting: work through the troubleshooting checklist.
- Need help: use the contact form. We’ll get back to you shortly by email. Include your order number, destination and phone model, but never your QR code or payment details.
- Wrong plan or no longer needed: contact us as soon as possible. The refund guide explains when a cancellation or refund may be possible. It does not limit your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
- If an order needs a manual check after payment, the order page says so and we contact you by email. You do not need to pay again.
Buying questions
Do I need an account to buy?
No. You pay with your email address and the eSIM is sent there. You can sign in later with your email and a 6-digit code to see your orders.
How do I check how much data I have left?
Open your order page, from the order link after payment or by signing in to your account with your checkout email and a 6-digit code, and tap Check status on the eSIM. It shows the status, the data left and the expiry date as last reported by the network, which updates data use every 2–3 hours.
Can I buy eSIMs for my family in one order?
Yes. Each eSIM in the order gets its own QR code, so install one on each phone.
Are prices in AUD?
Yes, including GST. If you pay with an overseas card, Stripe's page can show your own currency at its exchange rate.
Is it a subscription?
No. Each order is a single payment for the plan you choose.
